Student-Designed Cars Race Through CHS Hallway

The hallway outside the CHS main office became the final lap of the Indianapolis 500 for a few moments on Monday afternoon.
Students in Leslie Kaplan's Discovering Engineering Technologies class raced their final products down the straightaway.
The students had been given assorted objects and constructed their own battery-powered race cars in class for the big race.
"Imagine you are an engineer working on designing a brand-new, innovative electric vehicle design," Kaplan said. "What are some things you must consider? How will you work with your team to create the best design? How will you maximize the use of materials to make your electric vehicle cost efficient?
"They were given a 'bag of parts' including a motor, propeller, gears, pulleys and wheels to make a car with three goals: speed, durability and cost effectiveness."
