Excellence in Education

Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

The Project Lead The Way (PLTW) logo features a stylized atom with a gear inside, representing innovation through learning.

PLTW Engineering and Computer Science courses empower students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and gain hands-in experience. PLTW courses engage students in real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students will enhance their in-demand knowledge and skills that they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives on an career path they choose.

Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit in PLTW courses by scoring a 6 or higher (out of 9) on the PLTW End of Course Assessment given in June and by maintaining a course average of 85 or higher.  Commack High School currently offers the following PLTW courses:

  • Design and Drawing for Production, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Principles of Engineering, and Environmental Sustainability through the Rochester Institute of Technology.
  • Computer Science Principles through the University of Iowa's College of Engineering. Students may also take the AP exam for this course.

More information about PLTW can be found in the CHS Curriculum Guide and corresponding course descriptions can be found within the departmental pages of the Curriculum Guide.
